The Joint Annual Conference 2011 of the Interreg North Sea Commission took place from June 22nd to 23rd in Bruges, Flanders, and mainly focused on the “Perspectives for the Future of the North Sea Region”. NMU partners from Edinburgh Napier University, Lübeck and Bremen Universities of Applied Sciences used this opportunity to discuss the maritime education of the future with the participants. Nearly 300 visitors came to see the exhibition – NMU project members Andreas Dörich, Alfred Baird and Susanne Neumann were very busy to answer questions of interested attendees coming to the NMU stand.
Questions were primarily concerned with the possibilities of getting small pieces of tailor made inhouse face-to-face education accompanied by state of the art e-learning modules. Besides that, valuable contacts to other projects could be established. Their finding could be of great value for the development of the NMU teaching modules. Furthermore, the NMU team discussed with politicians, representatives of European institutions and the Commission needs for future cooperation in maritime education not only in the North Sea Region – but all over Europe.
